Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Tax Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate must have a strong foundation in accounting principles and a keen interest in accounting and taxation. As a Junior Tax Accountant, you will be responsible for assisting in preparing accounting records, drafting of financial statements, preparation and submissions of tax returns, and research under the guidance of senior staff members.

Responsibilities

Accounting responsibilities

  1. General administration, filing and e-Filing maintenance.
  2. Pastel and Xero accounting processing.
  3. Assist in accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment processing, and collections.
  4. Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  5. Assist in month-end and year-end close processes.
  6. Drafting of financial statements and reports.
  7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
  8. Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
  9. Stay updated on accounting regulations and best practices.

Tax responsibilities

  1. General administration, filing and e-Filing maintenance.
  2. Assist in the preparation and filing of various tax returns, including individual, corporate, partnership, and trust returns (ITR14 / ITR12).
  3. Preparation and submission of provisional tax returns for individuals, companies and trusts.
  4. Monthly VAT201, EMP201 and UIF submissions.
  5. Employer PAYE reconciliations and submissions (EMP501).
  6. Conduct tax research and analysis to support tax planning initiatives and ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  7. Assist in communicating with clients to gather necessary tax information and documents.
  8. Prepare workpapers and schedules to support tax filings and calculations.
  9. Participate in tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
  10. Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations and their potential impact on clients.
  11. Provide general support to senior tax accountants and managers as needed.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or Tax.
  2. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  3. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  4. Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, accounting software and tax preparation software.
  6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  10. Prior internship or relevant work experience in accounting would be an advantage.
